A Forum Communications Special Project

About this project

Mike Jacobs

We welcome you to Living with Water. We are men and women of Forum Communications Company. You are people living with water. Our project is to build understanding about water and its impact on our lives across the region, including ways that our uses of water impact other regions, and how their uses impact us.

We of FCC intend to use our resources as reporters, photographers and editors to gather information, stories and points of view about water.

Your part is to tell stories, ask questions, share your opinions, make recommendations. The project runs through February 2012 and it involves all of Forum Company’s venues, online, on air and in print.

We’ve divided the huge project into five different topics. None of these is perfect, but each offers a way into this huge subject. The topics are geography, dealing with where water comes from and where it goes; surplus, dealing with flooding; supply, dealing with demands for water; quality, dealing with what’s in the water we use; and management, dealing with the agencies and people who make decisions about water issues.

We’ll post our work as it progresses, but you are the most important part of this site. Please post your stories, questions, ideas and opinions. We’re also interested in documents pertaining to water. We’d like to hear family stories about drought and other issues arising from lack of water. And we hope you’ll share your experiences of flooding. Finally, it would be fantastic if you’d share your thoughts about living by a lake, canoeing a prairie stream or getting soaked in a sudden rainstorm – anything that involves Living with Water.

We at Forum Company are excited about this project and we know your help will make it better than we can make it by ourselves. Please join up.

Many thanks,

Mike Jacobs
